The primary objective of a Security Officer is to assist in the safety and security of the patients, visitors, employees, buildings, and grounds. Security Officers play a key role in ensuring a Great Patient Experience for each individual that comes on-site at Memorial Health System, going above and beyond to offer assistance.  The Security Officer is expected to serve in multiple roles as an inside and outside officer along with the emergency department control desk.

While previous experience is not necessary, the individual must have strong communication skills and the ability to provide great service to a variety of patients and visitors. Security Officers must be able to complete other tasks as well, dealing with the public in a variety of situations and knowing how to remain calm in stressful situations.    The officers need to exhibit strong de-escalation skills with a high level of professionalism.  Other duties include emergency response, morgue response, providing rides home to patients, rounding, escorts, special runs, and parking violations.

Security Officers have the opportunity to make a difference for others by providing a service to patients, visitors, and other employees. Assisting the patient, visitor and employees provides an opportunity to give back to the community.  It is highly desirable that a Security Officer is aware of their surroundings, goes out of their way to help others and adapts to change.  Security officers are the face of the organization, so being welcoming and approachable is extremely important.

Basic Functions:

This position embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values. These standards are evident in the daily work, which includes assisting in maintaining the safety and security of hospital buildings, grounds, and associated personnel and visitors at Memorial Medical Center. Also, responding to requests from others for assistance with traffic control, parking, escort needs, restricted area and/or access violations, and personal safety.


Requirements for this position include:

  • Graduation from high school, or the equivalency, is required.
  • Previous experience in a security role, preferably in a hospital setting, is strongly preferred.
  • Possesses excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess valid Illinois drivers license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (10 year MVR will be required). 
  • Must be able to operate automatic shift vehicle.
